This recording is about Shona mbira liturgy and an interpretation of this music through personal experience. Accepting the context sensitivity of mbira, relying on an early childhood of Shona worship, in this recording, the author uses traditional mbira music to augment and expand beyond current ethnomusicology literature to expose the power and timelessness of mbira music.

Vusumuzi Vusa Ndlovu

Vusumuzi Vusa Ndlovu was born on 19 October 1974 in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe’s second largest city which is in Matebeleland. It is from here that he was introduced to Imbube early and fell in love with it. At nine years Vusa was already singing in the school choir. His school, Mahlabezulu Primary was within walking distance from his home in Tshabalala township. He recalls: “I was in third grade when I first sang in a choir and my voice just opened up. I remember loving it and was lucky because at home my family sang together at special occassions.

In 1992 He joined Insingizi and began performing professionally in schools, community halls, festivals. He says: “It was magic. I had replaced one of the member who left the group and we sang like we depended on it.

World’s Biggest Hip Hop Dance Event Comes to Zimbabwe

Which country produces the best break dancers in the world? Zimbabwean Hip Hop dancers have an opportunity to change the answer to that question at the 20th International BOTY contest to be held in Germany in October this year- but first they need to win local and continental heats that will bring maestros of this acrobatic dance form together.

BOTY stands for Battle of the Year and officially they call their event the annual international bboying crew contest.  It’s a platform for unique break dancing, preservation of the Hip Hop culture and an opportunity for youths to express themselves artistically in a peaceful environment.
